2024 Artist Event Guidelines


Main Event

  • Artist must be a minimum of 18 years of age.

  • Artist must paint on location from direct observation of life; no use of photographic references. Artist may paint within a 10-mile radius (as the crow flies) of Victor City Hall during the event. This radius includes the city of Cripple Creek.

  • Only flat, two-dimensional artwork will be accepted for the show. Note, only one (1) of the submitted paintings may be gallery-wrapped, with a minimum thickness of 1.25 inches.

  • All submitted artwork must be framed and affixed with a wire hanger. The maximum dimension of each painting, including frame, may not exceed 900 square inches, with a maximum width not to exceed 36 inches. See size rule exception for Miniatures below.

  • Artwork must be started and finished during the event. Artwork must be done entirely on location from life. Use of photographic references is not allowed. Blank canvases will be date stamped at Artist Check-in. The date stamp must be visible on the back of each painting submitted for the show.

  • Each artist may enter a maximum of four (4) paintings in any combination of the following categories:

    • En Plein Air | Up to three (3) paintings of a landscape or street scene done entirely on location during the event. Minimum sale price for each is $125.

    • Interior | Only one (1) painting entry in this category is allowed. Artist must be inside a Victor/Cripple Creek area building while painting the interior scene. Minimum sale price is $125.

    • Miniature | Only one (1) painting in this category is allowed (may be either an En Plein Air or Interior subject). Maximum painting surface may not exceed 36 square inches (5˝x 7˝ or 6˝x 6˝). Maximum framed dimensions may not exceed 80 square inches. Minimum sale price is $75.

  • Artist should have a current biography affixed on the back of each painting. Artist must provide two copies of his/her current biography at Artist Check-In, of which one copy will be on display in the gallery. Each artist is encouraged to provide 2˝ x 3˝ business cards for distribution to event patrons.

  • Finished artwork will be judged and prizes will be awarded.

Additional Events

  • Brush Rush | A historic site in Victor is selected by VCTA and revealed at 9:00 AM on Sunday morning on the patio of the Victor Elks Lodge. The event is open only to registered artists. One stamped, unframed canvas or paper per artist, painted on site, may be submitted for judging. Maximum size allowed is 14" x 18". Artwork is to be returned to the Victor Elks Lodge (gallery) no later than 12:30 PM of the same day to be judged by registered artists.

  • Quick Draw | Registered artists check in Monday morning with our VCTA Coordinator in Wallace Park before 9:00 AM. Artist must be situated within Wallace Park while painting. Live models and props will be provided for use as painting subjects. One unframed canvas or paper per artist, painted on site, may be submitted for judging. Public judging will be conducted on-site at the conclusion of the event.
